ACTDA Boss Endorses Second Onye-Eze Football Tournament
Ossy Onuko, the Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has pledged his support for the Onye-Eze Football Tournament scheduled to kickoff on Oct. 6.
Onuko said this when the organisers of the competition visited him in his office as part of the Stakeholders’ engagement ahead of championship during the weekend.
Onuko said his support for the football competition which was second in the series was for its unifying power as well as part of his commitment to promoting youth development in Awka through sports.
The ACTDA boss commended Governor Charles Soludo for developing the state across all sectors, especially sports in spite of the limited infrastructure such as the stadium.
He assured the organizers of his assistance to make the tournament a success, adding that the Soludo’s administration loved youths and their development.
“Sports is key to bringing people together and fostering unity and peaceful coexistence, it is one of the social activities capable of uniting enemies to become friends.
“It’s not easy to come by money these days, but I am committed to supporting this initiative to unite our youth and encourage their positive development. I appreciate your efforts and urge you to continue the good work,” he said.
On his part, Christopher Uzoh, ChairmanOnye-Eze Football Competition Organising Committee thanked Onuko for his support.
Uzoh said that the tournament in its second edition was aimed at engaging youths across the 33 villages in Awka as part of measures to address the menace of crime and insecurity in the capital town.
The chairman urged all the youths in Awka to key in and participate actively in the tournament, insisting that the initiative would channel the energies of youths from negative activities such as drug abuse and violence towards meaningful and positive activities.
The Onye-Eze Football Championship will hold between Oct. 12, and Dec. 29, 2024, at the Awka City Stadium.
