Ama Assumes Duty As New CP In Anambra, Assures People-Centered Policing
CP Nnanna-Oji Ama has assumed office as the new Commissioner of Police in Anambra
Ama succeeded AIG Ikioye Orutugu who retired after attaining the mandatory age of 60.
Addressing the media on Monday, Ama said he had received a comprehensive briefing and commended the dedication, professionalism and sacrifices of officers and men of the command.
He appreciated members of other security agencies and the people of Anambra for their continued cooperation, support and partnership in the efforts to maintain peace, security and public safety in the state.
The new CP regretted the tragic incident involving the discovery of four unconscious children, aged 6, 9, 12 and 15 years, in Ideani Community who had all been confirmed dead.
“The fourth child is currently receiving intensive medical care and is courageously fighting for survival.
“I wish to announce that the Anambra Police Command will bear the full medical expenses of the surviving child and closely monitor the child’s treatment and recovery to ensure that every necessary medical intervention is provided,” he said.
Ama said the command under his watch would strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, improve operational efficiency, and deepen proactive crime prevention measures across the State.
He promised to reinforce community policing initiatives, strengthen collaboration with sister security agencies, vigilance groups and other critical stakeholders and continue to build public confidence through effective partnership and engagement.
The new CP said the media remain indispensable partners in the security architecture noting that their responsibility in informing the public, especially during periods of heightened security concern, could not be overemphasised.
“I therefore urge you to continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism by ensuring that your reports are factual, balanced, responsible and guided at all times by the overriding interest of public safety and national security.
“I count on your continued support, cooperation and objective reportage as we collectively confront criminality in all its forms.
“I extend my hand of fellowship to every member of the media and invite you to remain dependable partners in our shared mission of securing Anambra,” he said.

Ama assured Anambra residents that he would Police with integrity, fairness, professionalism and respect for the rule of law.
He thanked IGP Olatunji Disu for finding him worthy to serve as the Commissioner of Police, Anambra while appreciating the Anambra government under Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for supporting the Police.
Ama is a native of Ekata in Edda LGA of Ebonyi State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Jos.
He enlisted as a Cadet Superintendent of Police and trained at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, before embarking on a wide-ranging career spanning intelligence, criminal investigation, tactical operations, administration, public relations and strategic command.
His previous appointments include DCP,General Investigation, FCID Abuja; Commanding Officer, No. 44 MPF, Force Headquarters Abuja; Area Commander, Nnewi, Anambra; ACP, Homicide, FCID; Zonal CID, Zone 9, Umuahia; Commanding Officer, No. 11 PMF, Calabar.
He was DPO, Asokoro and Dutse Alhaji in the FCT; Coordinator of Courses, Police Detective College, Enugu; Commanding Officer, No. 26 PMF, Uyo;Divisional Crime Officer, Sango Otta, Ogun State, and PPRO, Rivers State Police
Command, among other strategic posts.
