Anambra 2025: Nweke Urges Candidates To Eschew Politics Of Bitterness
Ozo Jeff Ezechukwu Nweke, candidate of Action Alliance, (AA) in the Nov. 8, Anambra governorship election has called on political parties and their play by the rules and avoid bitterness, blackmail for undue advantage.
Nweke, who made the call at a news conference in Awka at the weekend, said political campaigns should be a period for candidates to sell their programmes and convince the electorate to vote for them.
He said campaigns should be issue-based, with candidates talking about their plans for security of lives and property, how they intend to stop kidnappings and killings that have become commonplace in Anambra.
“Political campaigns should not be time to malign or engage in character assassination or unnecessary altercations with political opponents but time to showcase our plans for the people.
“Tell the people how you intend to tackle the problem of multiple taxation choking the masses death and stagnating businesses, your plans for the education sector, welfare of the people and the state’s economy.
“How do you intend to attract investors to come and build industries for , employment of our youth and improve our revenue base?
“These are the issues that ought to dominate our discourse and not name calling,” he said.
Nweke who condemned taking people to the cleaners in the name of politics said anything contrary to posers amounted to politics of bitterness and blackmail .
The AA candidate described as despicable the use of uncouth language by some netizens who reacted to a trending video of Gov. Prof. Chukwuma Soludo dancing with his son to a music waxed by the latter,
He said Soludo was a family man with children and did nothing wrong to dance with his son.
“It is therefore, both condemnable and detestable for anyone to ridicule the first family of the state because of that.
“My idea is that we should all eschew dirty politics of bitterness and calumny just to gain undue political advantage and focus on issues.
” On our part, we have mapped out very robust programmes on how to rescue Anambra from misrule and put the state on the path of development and progress.
“I believe there could be different approaches toward the way things are done but Gov. Soludo is trying his best in terms of general development.
“We hold Soludo in high esteem, where such a mistake is noticed, it should be handled with correction in order to move the state further in positivism,” he said.
