Anambra Community Holds Maiden Fitness Walk
His Royal Highness, Igwe Chinyelu Nwora-Molukwu on Thursday led no fewer than 300 indigenes of Amawbia Town in Awka South Local Government Area in a five kilometre health awareness and fitness walk.
The maiden walk tagged “Amawbia Ugbo Ogiliga Walk” was sponsored by Mr Pius Okoye, member representing Awka South 2 Constituency in Anambra House of Assembly.
Igwe Nwora-Molukwu was joined by Mr Harry Uduh, Head of Service in Anambra, Mr Willie Nwokoye, Principal Secretary to Gov. Willie Obiano among other illustrious sons and daughters of the town
Elderly men, women and youths converged at the take off point, Central School Amawbia as early as 6 am to participate in the walk which lasted for about 1h:30mins before terminating at Ezi Okpalaigwe, town hall.
Addressing the crowd after the walk, Igwe Nwora-Molukwu said his decided to lead the walk to emphasise the importance of regular exercise to the health of the individual.
He commended the lawmaker for initiating the programme and thanked the participants for their cooperation and orderliness during the walk.
Okoye, the sponsor of the programme said it was part of his building stronger bond among his people and help them develop the culture of paying attention to physical and boosting their health.
The lawmaker who is the sponsors of the annual Awka South Football Ball Tournament known as “Obizi Unity Cup” urged the people of the constituency to remain assured of positive and quality representation.
“Apart from the normal quality legislative work I do for my constituency, I will continue to do all I can to ensure unity among my people, my advise is that they should engage in regular exercise for better health,” he said.
Ifeanacho Ogu, a football coach said the large turn out and excitement among the people was a testimony they had longed for such programme for a long time.
Ogum said people should endeavour to avoid sedentary life style by not sitting for a long time and not using their vehicles all the time but walk regularly as it had a lot of health benefits.
