Anambra CP Promises To Enforce Fertiliser Laws, Harps On Proper Handling Of Urea
Mr Echeng Echeng, Commissioner of Police in Anambra has called on the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to ensure proper handling and monitoring of fertilisers especially Urea.
Echeng made the call when he received a team of fertiliser inspectors and management of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Anambra State at the Police Command Headquarters in Awka.
NewsMonitor recalls that the Federal Government in April inaugurated a Task Force Committee under the National Fertilizer Quality Control Act 2019 in the Ministry of Agriculture and rural development to monitor and control chemical use in production of fertiliser.
The Committee would also ensure compliance with the recommended standard in the production of fertilisers.
Echeng said that fertilisers must be properly and professionally handle to ensure they did not get into the had of unpatriotic elements.
He said Urea also known as carbamide, a chemical used in the production of fertiliser could used to manufacture explosives.
According to him, the Police and other sister agencies will help enforce these laws and make sure the chemical are used judiciously.
“More especially *Urea* also known as carbamide, is an organic compound with chemical formula CO(NH2) must be handled with care because if it finds its way into wrong hands can be used to produce explosives,” he said.
