Anambra Election: ADC Candidate Harps On Security, COVID-19 Protocol
Chief Akachukwu Nwankpo, Candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) says he would adhere strictly to COVID-19 protocol as open campaigns for the Nov. 6 electioneering campaigns commence.
Nwankpo said this through Dr Harris-Chuma Ogene, Director General and Head Media/Strategy Akachukwu Nwankpo Campaign Organisation in Awka
Nwankpo also called on his co-contestants and their political parties to pay attention to the scourge and issues of security.
He said both were important for optimal success of the election while calling on Nigerian security agencies to do the much they could to restore public confidence to enable them to come out to campaign rallies.
Chuma said insecurity was more worrisome as it accounted for more deaths and loss of property than COVID-19.
“Political parties should ensure that they work hard towards making sure that the COVID 19 protocol is adhered to strictly at the gatherings during campaigns.
“Security is paramount because insecurity kills more than COVID-19 just as malaria kills more than COVID-19, so security should also be on the front burner.
“The level of insecurity across the nation is high, it is not just in Anambra or because we are holding elections here, thank God people are taking responsibility for their security now in addition to what the state is doing.
“I saw a ‘show of force’ by the Police showing that they are on ground, they rolled out their arsenals, that is the kind of assurance the people need this time to boost their confidence and participate in this process,” he said.
Nwankpo said the 2021 governorship election will be a watershed for Anambra politics and also go down as the most keenly contested because of the array of personalities involved in the election.
He said he was in the race to change the narrative of governance in Anambra and would run an issue based campaign that would open the eyes of the electorate to the roth in the system.
“This campaign is to clear the mess, we are going to bring to public glare, the atrocities that have happened in Anambra state and we will proffer solutions to them.
“This is where the ADC is coming in with Akachukwu Nwankpo who is tested and proven, ADC is the most peaceful and most respected political party in Nigeria.
“This platform will offer us the opportunity to realise his aspiration to contribute meaningfully to the development of Anambra, so we are here to clear the mess,” he said.
