Anambra Kicks Of Statewide Data Capturing for Sports Practitioners
The Anambra government on Tuesday commenced the data capturing exercise for practitioners in the sports sector including instructors, coaches and sports officers across the state.
The exercise kicked off simultaneously in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state and would last for two days before it would move to Awka for continuation at the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development.
Patrick-Agha Mba, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development who monitored the exercise in some local government centres across the three senatorial districts expressed satisfaction with the level of turnout.
Mba said the registration exercise was part of the effort to establishing a comprehensive data base of sports administrators, coaches and instructors across the state,
He said Soludo was determined to create an enabling sports ecosystem at the grassroots with the aim of moving sports from mere recreation to a critical tool for youth empowerment, job creation, talent discovery and social cohesion.
Mba urged sports practitioners to take advantage of the registration window in order to participate in the training and certification that would be conducted soon.
Nwankwo Vincent, an Isuofia based grassroots football coach who registered commended the Anambra government for the registration exercise for instructors saying it would enhance coordinated development.
He described the registration process as seamless while expressing hope that the training would enhance the knowledge of coaches.
“I am happy that the government is aware that the coaches exist in our various localities,” he said.
Lucy Owon, a gym instructor who registered at Awka South said the database was a good initiative which should be embraced by all genuine coaches at every level in the state.
Owon said they have looked forward to that type of organisation within the sports sector .
