Anambra Gov’t Reopens of Onitsha Main Market After One-Week Closure
The Anambra government has directed traders in Onitsha Main Market to return to business effective Monday, Feb. 12 following the expiration of one week of shutdown of the market directed by Gov. Chukwuma Soludo.
Dr Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information in Anambra said this in a Statement on Sunday.
Mefor said the pro rata salary system for civil servants and teachers in which people would not be paid if they do not work on Monday was still in force.
He assured the people of Anambra and residents that there was adequate security while urging those who had concerns to report to emergency line 5111.
“This is to inform the general public that the closure of Onitsha Main Market, ordered by Gov. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, lapses this weekend.
“To that effect, all traders are hereby informed to resume business as usual on Monday, Feb 2, 2026, as there is no longer any form of sit-at-home on Mondays in Anambra.
“Also, parents must release their children for school on Mondays to avoid sanctions,” he said.
