Anambra Gov’t Sets Up Panel Of Enquiry Over Disputed JAMB Score
The Government of Anambra State has instituted a panel of inquiry into the controversy over the candidate who scored the highest point in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education said this in a Statement made available in Awka on Monday.
Recall that one Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi had been alleged to have scored 362 points and celebrated as the highest scorer.
The news of Ejikeme’s purported feat had attracted the attention of Chief Innocent Chukwuma, Chairman of Innoson Motors Limited who awarded her a scholarship of N3 million.
The Statement which was made available by Mr Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to Gov. Chukwuma Soludo said the government regretted the development as it was very embarrassing.
It said it was unfortunate that the dispute of the result was coming at a time when the Soludo led administration is repositioning the education sector of the state.
Chuma-Udeh said security agencies were investigating the allegation of falsification of results leveled against Mmesoma.
Meanwhile the Anambra government has congratulated Miss Nkechinyere Umeh, who was declared the highest scorer by JAMB, with a cumulative mark of 360.
“The JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede had disclosed in Abuja at the 2023 Policy Meeting for Tertiary Institutions, that Nkechinyere Umeh scored 360 marks to emerge the best,” it stated.
