Anambra Guber:Soludo’s Re-Election Bid Rakes In Over N500m Through Crowdfunding
A cross section of Anambra has donated upward of N500 million to the second term bid of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ahead of the Nov. 8 election.
Dr Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information in Anambra who said this in a Statement said the crowd funding system was Soludo’s other disruptive change.
He said the voluntary donations which came from students, market associations, communities and senatorial districts were evidence of the acceptance his candidacy enjoyed among the people.
He said this was a marked difference from the past when governorship candidates offered money to groups and communities in search of votes.
He described the donation which started with N3 million to between N10 million and N100 million as a unique crowdfunding
Students in tertiary institutions raised N3m to enable Mr Governor to purchase the nomination form and the Soludo support groups followed with N50m.
“Anambra North, Central, and South Senatorial Districts raised N50m, N70m, and N100m respectively, ASMATA donated N10m, while stakeholders in Idemili North and South raised N70m.
“Obosi community supported the Soludo campaign with N50m, Amichi community backed the mission with N50m, Oba people backed their endorsement with a generous N50 million, the list goes on.
“This significant endorsement underscores the growing confidence in Soludo’s governance.
“The Governor may end up not contributing a farthing to his own campaign, thereby setting yet another record in electioneering funding in Nigeria,” he said .
Mefor said Soludo was reaping the reward of the good work for deploying the resources of Anambra to work for the people through the crowdfunding of his campaign.
Every community in Anambra State can count on the democracy dividends being delivered by Soludo; they troop out to support his campaign with funds they raised on their own.
He wondered if there was still a need for the opposition to continue their quest to unseat Soludo in the face of the general acceptance he was enjoying.
“It is a rare demonstration of love and determination to return a hard working governor.
“Days ago, Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo and traditional rulers from five Southeast states, as well as Rivers, Delta, and Edo, also conferred the title of “Oku-Nyelu-Ife” meaning “light that has illumin
ated” on Soludo.,” he said.
