Anambra Moves To Regulate Scrap Business, Approves N1.17Bn For New Projects
The Anambra State Executive Council has decried the housing deficits in the state and resolved to tackle the supply side in a bid to address rising rents.
Dr Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation who disclosed this on Tuesday the government also planned to encourage private sector partnership towards achieving sufficient housing in the state.
The Council also resolved that tax worthiness would be part of the prequalifications before any company could participate in bidding for projects in the state.
“This will further ensure that the state fully benefits from companies doing projects in the state as responsible corporate partners,” he said.
ANSEC also resolved to henceforth, involve professionals of relevant departments and faculties in the universities in the state in project designs, execution and deliveries.
He said there was legislation in process which would require the licensing of scrap dealers, including those dealing in scrapped vehicles targeted at addressing the cases of vandalism and theft of public properties in the state.
A total of 1,173,856,675.75 was approved for three major projects including N801,674,399.75 for the construction of a floodwater diversion channel at Ezioko, Oko-Nanka, Orumba North LGA.
N279,488,986.35 was approved for the supply and installation of new medical equipment & accessories at the General Hospital, Oroma Etiti and N92,693,289.65 for the construction of general external works/landscaping at the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.
The Council paid tribute and observed a minute of silence in honour of Lt. Gen. Chikadibia Obiako who died recently.
The Council described late Obiako as an illustrious son of the state who had a meritorious military career as a member of the 10th Regular Course, serving the Nigerian Army and the nation at regimental, brigade, and divisional levels.
“Notably, he served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division and later as the Chief of Administration at Army Headquarters,” he said.
