Anambra Reps. Aspirant Escapes Life Threatening Attack In Nri
Chief Chukwudi Oli, a top aspirant for Anaocha/Dunukofia/Njikoka Federal Constituency on Saturday escaped what time people considered as an attack on his life in Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area.
Reports say Oli’s convoy was blocked and threatened with firearms by one Nonso, a private security guard attached to an influential former traditional leader in the community.
However , the superior fire power of the security operatives attached to the top APGA aspirant overpowered and disarmed the menacing gunman .
The incident has sparked widespread concern as it was being viewed by many as a serious threat to political stability and safety in the area.
According to sources, Nonso was not registered with any recognised security outfit in Anambra as confirmed by the office of the Nri Progressive Union
“He brandished a firearm and opened fire on the security personnel attached to the aspirant.
“The aspirant’s security team acted swiftly, engaged the attacker, successfully disarmed and overpowered him before the situation could deteriorate.
“It was a clear case of convoy obstruction and a targeted attack on the Oba Ezeafia,” the source said
The source said it had triggered concerns about a possible plot to intimidate or eliminate the frontline aspirant.
It said it had also heightened fears of politically motivated violence as the race for the federal constituency seat got more intense.
“The matter has been reported to relevant security agencies for thorough investigation.
“Stakeholders and concerned citizens are calling for a prompt and transparent inquiry into the incident.
“They have also urged authorities to ensure the safety of all political actors and ensure anyone found culpable wasbrought to book,” it said.
