Anambra Sports Commissioner Celebrates Victorious Taekwondo Team
Patrick-Agha Mba, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development has commended the performance of the state Taekwondo Team at the house concluded national championship in Lagos State.
Mba made the commendation when he received the team which received top rating at the championship in his office in Awka on Friday.
The team included, Oranye Chibikem, Chizaram Nwafor, kamsiyochukwu Eke, Melvin Obilo, Chimbuodogwu Nwafor and Kamsiyonna Nwamara.
Oranye was number one for clinching the gold medal for three consecutive years at the National youth games while 14 year old Nwamara was the first to win bronze at the National trials in the heavyweight category.
The team which was led by Jude Nwafor, the coach, also presented a trophy for the Best Committed Team to the Development of Taekwondo which they won to the Commissioner.
The excited Mba who in turn presented rewards to the victorious team said he was happy that they retained the top spot position at the Championship
He said the achievement marked the third consecutive time the Anambra Taekwondo team had emerged as the leading team, noting that it was an indication of the state’s growing strength in grassroots sports development.
He said the continued success of the Taekwondo team demonstrated the abundance of sporting talent in Anambra adding that there was need to sustain investment in youth development.
“I congratulated you for your outstanding performance, you have shown discipline, hard work, determination and commitment to excellence.
“Mr Governor is working effortlessly to create an enabling environment for sports and youth development to thrive in the state.
“His vision extends beyond winning competitions, this administration is working to establish a sustainable sports ecosystem where young people can discover their talents, develop professionally and pursue sports as a viable career,” he said.
Mba said Anambra planned to establish sports academies across the local government areas as part of strategies to strengthen grassroots sports and discover more talents
“These academies will provide young athletes with opportunities for structured training, professional development and access to the support required to compete at the highest levels.
“I encourage our athletes to remain focused and disciplined and be assured that the state government would continue to distinguish yourselves through sports,” he said.
