Anambra Sports Festival: Shanahan College Reach Basketball Finals,
Bishop Shanahan College, Onitsha dominated the boys basketball event at the zonal elimination stage of the ongoing Anambra State School Sports Festival.
On the Day-1 of the zonal finals held at the Chuba Ikpeazu Mini Stadium on Friday, Shanahan College defeated Christ the King College Onitsha 7- 1 before going ahead to thrash Blessed Child Secondary School, Onitsha 7-0 to cruise to the State final.
Francisca Odiegwu, the Games Mistress of Shanahan College said she was overwhelmed with joy for the display by her team which earned them a spot in the finals.
“I’m exceedingly happy we’ve made it to the state finals”, she rejoice.
“We worked hard for it. We deserved it and rightly earned it.
“From the state level, we will be looking forward to representing the state and even the country at the global level”.
C.K.C won the second spot to represent Anambra North Senatorial Zobe in the State basketball finals after out-dunking Blessed Child College 8-2.
In Volleyball Metropolitan College, Onitsha walked over Fr Joseph’s College, Aguleri while Washington Grammar School defeated Metropolitan College also from Onitsha 2-0 both in the boys U17 category.
In the Girls category, Washington Grammar School sent Ado Girls packing with a two set 2-0 victory to qualify in the U17 category.
Zonal elimination battles continue on Saturday.
