Anambra Town Unions Council Lauds Soludo’s 3-Year Scorecard
The Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC) has commended Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for his giant strides in all sectors of the state in the last three years.
Mr Vin Dike, Chairman of ASTUC told journalists in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area on Wednesday while making the commendation lauded Soludo for recognising the role of Presidents General as fourth tier of government.
Recall that Soludo had on March 29 changed the umbrella body of town union presidents general from Association of Anambra State Town Unions (ASATU) to ASTUC and appointed Dike as maiden Chairman.
He said that the recognition would enhance the role of town union leadership as drivers of development at the grassroots.
“On May 29, the town Union Council formally endorsed Soludo for a second term, not just for the fun of it but because he has done what no other governor has done on road infrastructure, education and healthcare.
Dike said his leadership of the Council would streamline town union administration processes, and ensure that ASTUC functioned with immense benefits to communities.
He said the ongoing legislative process in the Anambra House of Assembly to formalise the role of Presidents General as fourth tier of government was a welcome development as it had been our prayer to be so recognised by the law.
“Presidents General derive their powers from the government who issues them certificates, Town Unions cannot do much in the area of security, youth employment, women empowerment and skill acquisition without the support of government.
“The Council will empower the PGs for more effective service delivery to their communities, we will organise leadership training for new members and partner with the Traditional Ruler Council.
“We have accepted the vision of the governor, sent our appreciation to him, we have also pledged our loyalty to him and gave our assurance to help him realise his vision and goals,” he said.
Dike said ASTUC was going to balance the interest of the people of their communities and their duties to government, noting that membership of the Council did not make anybody an automatic member of the ruling party in the state.
The ASTUC Chairman commended Soludo for enacting the Homeland Security Law and launch of Agunechemba security outfit saying it had paved the way to how how they could tackle insecurity in the State.
ASTUC members under the Homeland Security Law are the operational managers of security operations in the communities in collaboration with LGA chairmen and Agunechemba outfit.
“The Council as a fourth tier of government does not make anybody a member of the ruling party, we will still have our different ideologies but when we aggregate these ideas, it will be what Anambra represents,” he said.
