Anambra Traders Competition: Nkwo Umunze, Iron Dealers Mkts, Mgbuka Obosi Progress To Semi Finals In Football
Nkwo Umunze Market in Orumba South Local Government Area and Ogbo Road Market in Ogbaru LGA have advanced to the semi final stage of the football event of the ongoing Anambra Traders Sports Competition.
The two teams qualified to the round of four from Group A after playing a 1-1 draw in their last group game at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha on Saturday.
Odera Building Nigeria Market, Awka crashed out of the competition after finishing the group games with two draws against Nkwo Umunze and Iron Dealers.
At the Achebe Stadium Onitsha, venue of Group B games, Old Motor Spare Parts Market, Obsoi, also known as ‘Ngbuka Obosi’ walloped their opponents, Nnewi New Motor Spare Parts 4-1.
The ‘Mgbuka Obosi’ lads dominated the game right from kick off, but could not find the net until about 17mins when Toochukwu Okafor opened the floodgate of goals.
Okwuchukwu Ezuruike increased the goal tally for the Obosi boys before half time.
Old Spare Parts boys continued their good display in the second half to the admiration crowd and ended their goal fest with a brace by Chidera Michael.
The Nnewi New Spare Parts got their consolation goal before the centre referee signaled the end of hostilities.
With the emphatic win, Old Motor Spare Parts Market, Obosi, now joins
Ogbo Rod Market, Atani and Nkwo Umunze Market in the last four of the tournament.
The second semi finalists from Group B will be determined after the rescheduled game between Ajasa Market Onitsha and Old Spare Parts Obosi on Nov.15.
Coach, Charles Old Motor Spare Parts Obosi said he was happy with the victory and overall performance of the team.
The elated coach said his eyes were fixed on the ultimate prize.
“Honestly speaking, I was a bit jittery facing the Nnewi New Motor Parts Market Team. But, I had to face it, with my experience in the past editions of the tournament.
“I don’t know who our opponents in the semi final would be, but when we entered into this competition, our ambition was to win the cup. we have not deviated from that objective,” he said.
