NYSC Warns Employers Against Abetting Truancy Among Corps members
Mrs Pauline Ojisua, the Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on corp member employers to help the scheme guard against truancy among their employees warning that errant organisations would be blacklisted.
Ojisua who made the call at the 2026 Corps Employers’ Workshop held in Awka on Tuesday said corps employers occupied a strategic position in the successful implementation of the NYSC Scheme and that should ensure that corps members posted to their establishments were properly supervised.
The theme for this year’s theme is “Fine-tuning Stakeholders’ Collaboration to Enhance Corps Members’ Welfare and Workplace Experience”.
Ojisua said the workshop was a reminder that the welfare and development of Corps Members could not be achieved by the scheme alone.
She commended the employers for providing corps members with opportunities to learn, serve and grow.
“Beyond assigning duties, many of you have mentored them, encouraged them and helped them discover their strengths,” she said.
In his address, the Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu urged employers of Corps Members in the state to prioritise their welfare and membership.
Nafiu who was represented by Mrs Victoria Ike-Nwosu Deputy Director NYSC South East Area Office I Enugu, appreciated the employers for their commitment and support towards the objectives and ideals of the Scheme.
He said the workshop was another opportunity for stakeholders to review their collective efforts, strengthen existing partnerships and explore new ways of improving the welfare and workplace experience of Corps Members deployed to various establishments.
According to him, Corps Employers played important role in creating a conducive environment for productive and eventful service.
“The workplace serves as the primary platform through which Corps Members acquire practical experience, develop professional competencies, and contribute their skills to national development,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Patrick-Agha Mba, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development commended the Director-General of NYSC and its Coordinator in Anambra for their visionary leadership and commitment to the development of the state.
Mba said since inception, the NYSC had continued to promote national unity, cultural integration, leadership development and community service as well as provided young graduates with practical workplace experience which prepared them for labour market realities.
He said the Chukwuma Soludo administration had positioned Anambra as one of Nigeria’s most attractive destinations for investment and private sector growth.
“Today, Anambra is witnessing significant improvements in road infrastructure, urban renewal, security, digital infrastructure, ease of doing business, revenue administration, and regulatory reforms.
“These interventions are creating an enabling environment that reduces the cost of doing business, enhances productivity, and gives businesses the confidence to expand their operations within the state,” he said.
Some outstanding Corps Employers were recognised with awards for exceptional commitment to the welfare and development of corps members.
