Anambra Workers Laud Soludo For Minimum Wage Compliance

 

 The Organised Labour under the aegis of Trade Union Congress and Nigeria Labour Labour Congress in Anambra has commended Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for implementing the minimum wage for workers in Anambra.

 

The workers made the commendation at the  2025 Workers’ Day at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka on Thursday.

The Labour Movement in Anambra also bestowed”Workers’ Beacon of Hope” on Soludo.

 

The theme for fvd celebrate in the state was “Reclaiming Civic Space Amidst Economic Hardship”.

 

They said even though the threshold was N70,000, Soludo was implementing N82,000 new minimum wage for workers in Anambra.

 

Mr Humphrey Chukwuemeka Nwafor, Chairman of NLC said Soludo also approved a N10,000 non-taxable award to pensioners.

 

According to him, Organised Labour sincerely appreciates the remarkable strides of the administration of Prof Soludo.

 

“On this occasion, we want to note the prompt and comprehensive implementation of the 2024 minimum wage. 

 

While the national benchmark was set at N70,000, Mr governor graciously approved N82,000, the highest in the South East and implemented it seamlessly across all sectors without industrial unrest,” he said.

 

Nwafor urged employers of labour in public and private sector to  prioritise the welfare of workers, especially in the areas of entitlements, empowerment and fair remuneration.

 

He appealed to  Soludo to address the issues of Contributory Pension Scheme, outstanding allowances for non-teaching staff in ASUBEB, construction of a labour house, appointment of a special adviser on labour matters, low-cost housing for workers and review of retirement age policy.

 

“We also need training and retraining of workers, utility vehicles, payment of outstanding gratuities and entitlements to retirees of the Anambra Broadcasting Service which has been pending since 2017, among others,” he said 

 

In his speech, Soludo commended the labour force in Anambra for their contributions to the growth and progress of the state.

 

He assured that his administration would continue to work with the Labour Unions to ensure that the welfare of Anambra workers were always taken care of.
