AnSFA/Solution Preseason Football Tournament Kicks Off In Anambra
Solution FC and Edel FC are top seeds in the Anambra Football Association/ Ministry of Sports preseason football tournament, which kicked off in Awka on Monday.
The two Anambra based Nigeria National League clubs will lead Olive Charles FC, Peace FC, Alleluia FC, Bona FC, Ozalla FC and UC Diamond FC in the eight teams tournament.
Patrick-Agha Mba, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development performed the kickoff ceremony at the Awka township stadium.
Mba said the platform was part of the government’s commitment to youth talent discovery, grassroots sports development and building of a sustainable sports economy.
He said the preseason tournament would enable the two NNL sides to prepare for the league season ahead and give footballers the platform to showcase their skills, to compete for space in the big clubs and keep their pursuit of professional career in football on track.
He advised them to approach the competition with seriousness and play safe and avoid injuries while urging match officials to uphold the highest standards of fairness, integrity and professionalism.
“We will continue to thank Mr for his great vision and determination to build a sports ecosystem, sports economy and grassroots sports system that will lead to raising a generation of sportspreneurs globally standards.
“I call on the players here to see this tournament as an opportunity to showcase your talents and take your career to the next level,” he said.
Mba appreciated Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for giving political backing and support for the tournament and repositioning of sports in Anambra.
He also commended him for reconstructing the Ekwulobia City Stadium, which was awaiting inauguration.
Also speaking, Chikelue Iloenyosi, the Chairman of AnSFA appreciated the Anambra government for partnering the association to stage the tournament.
Chikelue said Anambra was the home of sports and that the association was determined to return her to days of glory.
He said the Solution Pre-Season Tournament was part of the initiatives while promising that it would be three days of exciting and competitive grassroots football exhibition.
