APC May Not Participate In Anambra Election Unless…Lawyer
Mr Anthony Agbasiere, an Awka based legal practitioner says the All Progressives Congress risks not being on the ballot if the allegations of non conduct of primary election were proved beyond reasonable doubt.
Agbasiere said this in an interview with newsmen in Awka on Monday.
He said the national leadership of APC should listen to the opinions of citizens, party leadership in Anambra and aspirants regarding the conduct of the primary election on June 26 and act accordingly.
Agbasiere, who said he was a non-partisan but member of the attentive public, advised that the APC could still remedy the alleged anomaly before the close of submission of names of candidates.
He said he had been following party primary elections in Anambra and regretted that there was no semblance of Congress by the APC in Anambra.
“What happened in APC with regards to the conduct of its primary in Anambra was an embarrassment, there was no sign of Congress in any if the places I visited.
” I am worried because the party which should lead the way is allowing some persons to mismanage itself by hijacking what should be a democratic process.
“The complaint is everywhere, the leadership of the party has disclaimed the process, a serving minister has done same and no fewer than 11 aspirants have said there was no primary election in Anambra.
” This will throw up a lot of legal debate and if the claim of non conduct of Congress is proven beyond doubt, APC may not be on the ballot.
“However, the party can still do the right thing by conducting a process that will produce a candidate that is determined by the people,” he said.
Agbasiere said though no political party was immune from one form of challenge or the other arising from their Congresses.
“APGA had primary, the disqualification of aspirants is internal to them and they can ventilate their anger in court, PDP has theirs, the issue of parallel Congress can be sought out in court but for APC nothing to hold on to,” he said.
