By-election: APGA Wins Anambra South Senate, Onitsha North 1 Seats
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won Anambra South Senatorial District and the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency seats in the by-election held on Saturday.
Dr Emmanuel Nwachukwu contested for Anambra South Senatorial District while Ifeoma Ikpeazu-Azikiwe contested for Onitsha North 1 Constituency.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the two results on Sunday in Onitsha and Nnewi Local Governments respectively on Sunday.
In Nnewi, Prof. Frank Ojiako, the INEC Returning Officer Nwachukwu of APGA winner with 90,408 votes beating his closest rival, Chief Azuka Okwuosa, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 19,847 votes to second place.
Mr Donald Amangbo of the African Democratic Congress(ADC), finished third with 2,889 votes.
” I hereby make the declaration that Emmanuel Nwachukwu of APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.
In Onitsha Ms Ifeoma Azikiwe was declared winner of the Anambra House of Assembly, Onitsha North Constituency 1 by-election.
Prof. Ibiam Ekpe, the Returning Officer said the APGA candidate garnered 7,774 votes ahead of Mrs Justina Azuka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who pooled 1,909 votes.
He said that the candidate of the APC, Mr Ezennia Ojekwe and that of Young Progressives Party, Njideka Ndiwe scored 1,371 and 655 votes respectively.
The by-election was conducted to fill the two vacant seats following the death of late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah
and Justice Azuka.
