Ex-NANS Leader Steps Down For ‘Wiper’ In NDC Ticket Race For Oyi/Ayamelum
Mr Chuks Okafor, a former Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has withdrawn from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary election for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency.
Okafor who announced the decision in a Statement on Friday said it followed extensive consultations with stakeholders, supporters, and political associates.
He said he was stepping down to support another contestant for the ticket Mr Uchenna Okafor adding that took the step in good faith, in the overall interest of the party and constituency.
He said he was also collapsing his structure for Okafor, popularly known as ‘Wiper’ in order to promote unity and strengthen the party’s chances ahead of the primaries scheduled for Saturday.
The move is expected to reshape the dynamics of the race and consolidate a strong support base for ‘Wiper’
“I have taken this decision after careful consultations in the interest of unity and the collective strength of our party.
“I am stepping down in support of my elder brother, Wiper,” he stated.
The former student leader urged his supporters to rally behind Wiper and help the NDC achieve success in the general election.
He assured of his unwavering loyalty and commitment to the party’s ideals and pledged full support for whoever emerges the candidate of the party.
Okafor also expressed deep appreciation to his supporters for their encouragement, prayers, and loyalty throughout his campaign journey.
“My commitment to the progress of our party and the development of our constituency remains steadfast.
I will support the outcome of the party’s process and continue to work for our collective success,” he added.
‘Wiper’ is a former Local Government Chairman, Commissioner for Transportation, and Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.
He also served as Special Adviser on Internally Generated Revenue in Anambra.
