Federal Government Shutdowns Of First Niger Bridge For Repairs
The Federal Ministry of works says it will close the first Niger bridge between Sept. 7 and Sept. 21 to enable it carry out repair works.
Mr Timothy Emenike, the Ag. Federal Controller of Works in Anambra confirmed the shutdown of the bridge on Friday.
Emenike said the general public, especially those who use the bridge to access Onitsha from Asaba and vice versa, should take note of the closure.
He advised motorists and communities to use the second Niger bridge and continue their journeys during the period of the maintenance work
He said this would enable the federal government to fix sections of the bridge that have been affected by activities of vandals.
Emenike regretted the inconvenience the closure of the bridge would cause and assured that maintenance works would be both in the day and night to ensure speedy completion.
He urged motorists to cooperate with authorities and obey traffic diversion signs ensure minimal discomfort during the period
