Four Killed As Top Anambra Gov’t Official, Lawmaker Escape Assassination
Chief Ben Nwankwo, the Chief of Staff to Gov. Chukwuma Soludo and Mr Emmanuel Nwafor, (Ntu Japan), member representing Orumba South Constituency in the Anambra House of Assembly narrowly escaped kidnap on Sunday night.
Two security personnel attached to the official and two civilians were reportedly killed by the gunmen who struck their convoy on the Orumba North–Awka South borders along Amansea-Ufuma while returning from an official event.
A source said the armed men who were in Police Uniform stopped ‘Ntu Japan’ and asked him to pull over for interrogation.
The source said while they were discussing, the Chief of staff drove past with his Lexus 570 and was asked to continue but he stopped when he discovered that NTU Japan was being held
“Mr Chief of staff then clear-parked his vehicle in front of them (criminals on police uniforms), in a bid to intervene for the honourable member.
“His security men then arrived and one of the criminals shot at a Police escort of the Chief of Staff but missed before a gun duel ensued.
“The criminals on Police Uniform then opened fire and there was a shootout resulting in the alleged death of two police and two others,” it said.
Meanwhile, the Anambra Anambra has described the incident as an attack on the peace, security, democratic order, the government and the entire people of Anambra.

Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation in Anambra confirmed that four people lost their lives and that justice would be served.
“The Anambra State Government sends its deepest condolences to the families of those who died and share in their grief.
“The police and other security agencies are working to find and to bring everyone involved in this evil act to justice.
“This isolated incident after more than one year of peace and security in the state will not affect our determination to remove all forms of crime from Anambra, he said.
