Four Killed In Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra Community As Police Launch Manhunt
No fewer than four youths from Enugu-Ukwu Community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra were Monday killed in cold blood.
The deceased were killed by yet to be identified persons allegedly from a neighbouring community over a contested land at Isionye on the boundary between the two communities.
A source said the killers lured their victims to the land via telephones and ambushed them with gunshots killing four of them and leaving many others seriously injured.
The source said a viral video was circulated within social media platforms belonging to the people warning them to be vigilant as he feared reprisals and asked those who could, to leave the community immediately.
Some stakeholders in Enugu-Ukwu have called on Anambra government and Police to quickly investigate the killing of their brothers and prevent breakdown of law and order.
Amb. Elijah Onyeagba, Nigeria’s immediate past Ambassador to Burundi and a cabinet member in the community said the whole town was in shock and mourning over the brutal violence killing of their kinsmen.
Onyeagba said victims were lured via phone calls to Agu Isionye land belonging to Enugwu-Ukwu and were each executed cold blood.
“Enugwu-Ukwu is currently deliberating on this, our President – General has already informed the state government.
“The police authorities at Zone 13, Ukpo, Dunukofia local government have also been informed, urgent action is required to avert escalation of the crises,’’ he said.
Mr Emeka Okonkwo A youth leader in the community, said for the people to have carried out the murderous action had jettisoned their ‘Umunri brotherhood bond’.
Okonkwo wondered how the supposed brothers could kill one another saying it was an abomination.
“Some of the survivors with bullet wounds have been conveyed to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi for treatment, this will not be forgotten easily,” he said.
Meanwhile Mr Nnaghe Itam, the Police Commissioner in Anambra has ordered investigation into the attack that led to the murder of the deceased and injury to others.
SP Toochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra who confirmed the incidents said the CP had sued for calm and assured that the Police was on top of the matter.
He said the command had recovered the abandoned Sennia vehicle used by the murders.
“Also, the testimonies of the injured victims who are currently receiving treatment in the hospital are aiding the investigation while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue” he said.
