Ghanaian Student In Nigerian School Emerges WAEC Best Candidate
Jonathan Ankasah, a student of Christ the King College, Abuja has been awarded th prize for overall National Distinction/Merit Award best candidate in the 2019 West African School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The awards were announced and presented at the 58th Nigeria National Committee Annual Meeting held in Awka, Anambra.
Mr Patrick Areghan, Head National Office announced the winners while Mr Godwin Uzoigwe, a non-Council member representing Nigeria on Sub-Board of Trustees of the WAEC Endowment Fund introduced the awards.
Ankasah, 18, who was of Ghanaian origin and had all his education in Nigeria emerged top with a A1 in Data Processing, English Language, General Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Civic Education and Technical Drawing, garnering a total of T-Score of 627.29.
He is currently studying Petroleum Engineering at Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.
Emmanuel Ezeifemeelu from Layola Jesuit, Abuja was second with a total T-Score of 620.691 with A1 in Economics, Civic Education, English Language, Further Mathematics, General Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Computer studies.
Ezeifemeelu is studying Mechanical Engineering at New York University, Abu Dhabi.
A female, Oluwadara Olaiya also of Layola Jesuit College, Abuja was the third place winner also with A1 in seven subjects including Data Processing, Economics, Civic Education, English Language, General Mathematic, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Studies.
Olaiya is studying Neuroscience at Brown University, United States of America.
In the Best Aggregate Results in 2019 WASSCE for School Candidates in Anambra, Marist Comprehensive College, Nteje established in 2000 won the 1st position followed by Estate Secondary School, Fegge Onitsha.
CKC Onitsha were 3rd in that category. They all received endowment prizes of educational materials for the feat.
Speaking on the award, Ereghan said the awards were to support winners and also serve as motivation for others to work harder.
He said the awarding candidates and schools were thoroughly screened and certified to be free of any blemish.
Earlier in her message delivered via zoom, Hajia Binta Abdukadir, chairman of Nigeria National Committed said the examination body had put in place cutting edge technology to allow easy access to candidate information on electronic platforms.
Abdukadir in the message read by Prof Solomon Olorundare said strict measures were being adopted to stamp examination malpractice out of the system.
On his part, Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra said his administration appreciated the role of WAEC as credible examination body and pledged to continue to partner it.
Obiano who was represented by his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke said the state had zero tolerance for examination malpractice and expressed Anambra’s commitment to the fight against the vice
