Mbaukwu Stakeholders Condemn Stage-managed Protest Against Deputy Governor
Some concerned stakeholders of the Mbaukwu Community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra have condemned the protest by a section of women of the town over the constitution of a caretaker committee for Anambra State Association of Town Union (ASATU)-Women Wing.
The community stakeholders who spoke to journalists in Mbaukwu on Thursday described the protest as stage-managed intending to tarnish the image of Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State.
Mr Odira Ezeh, Chairman of Akabo village in Mbaukwu who spoke for grouoy said the town had a conventional way of choosing its leaders which were not observed in the election they purportedly conducted on June 8.
Recall that the women staged a protest at the Mbaukwu traditional rulers’ palace claiming that the State government did not recognise their election but instead set up a caretaker committee.
Odira said that as the Chairman of his village, he was not informed about the election which the women were claiming.
He said the caretaker committee was in order and had forestalled the crisis in the town.
“We are not aware of any Woman President General in Mbaukwu. All community elections are organised with the approval and supervision of the State government,” he said.
