NAPTIP Arrests Woman, 37 For Allegedly Flogging 3yr Girl To Death In Anambra
The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons have arrested one Ms Udeogu Chinelo, 37 for allegedly beating her ward to death and dumping the body in the bush.
Mr Anthony Okafor, the Public Relations Officer of NAPTIP in Anambra said the suspect who was arrested on Oct.5 was picked up at the school of the deceased when she went to get a refund of the fee she paid for her enrollment
The PRO said when the suspect was asked about the whereabouts of the victim, she disclosed that the victim had died and that victim died on Sept. 29.
According to NAPTIP, the suspect led the operatives of NAPTIP to the scene where she disposed of the body of the victim, on arriving the scene the victim’s decomposing body was found wrapped in a black nylon bag.
“The suspect who claimed that the deceased victim is her granddaughter, dumped her in the bush around Hezekiah Dike Crescent Awka.
“This is an offence of Child Abuse/ inflicting grievous harm on a child, an offence prohibited in Human Trafficking Act,” he stated.
Okafor said the suspect had been handed over to the Police by NAPTIP to investigate the death of the victim.
Confirming the incident, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra said the suspect had been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.
Ikenga said Udogu allegedly flogged the three years old child to death and dumped her body in a bush at Amikwo,
“She has been arrested and the victim’s body recovered, the lesson for us to learn is that we should be cautious when angry and desist from going physical when correcting our children,” he stated.
