NDC Chieftain Tasks OK Movement Leaders On Grassroots Mobilisation in Anambra
Dr. Tim Egboka, the Chairman of Obidient-Kwankwaso Movement in Anambra has charged members of the group to begin to build grassroots structure in their various wards across the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Egboka, a Chieftain of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)gave the charge during the inaugural meeting of newly appointed state, zonal and local government coordinators in Awka on Thursday.
The support groups coordinators inaugurated were ‘Obidient Movement’, ‘Kwankwasiya’, ‘Village Boys’, ‘COPDEMN’ and ‘Grassroots Alliance’.
He urged them to move from making speeches and political enthusiasm to practical organisation adding that leaders must lead from the front and show the way.
Egboka said OK movement’s immediate assignment was to harmonise and strengthen their structures in the 21 local government areas, wards and polling units in Anambra.
He urged coordinators to recruit people based on commitment and capacity rather than simply pursuing large membership figures.
He enjoined members of the group to join party at the ward level adding that the coordination would further strengthen the NDC ahead of the election as well as eliminate friction and cross purpose activities.
“This is time to work, as leaders we must make the sacrifices required to build functional structures at the grassroots.
“The objective is to transform the different support networks into a coordinated grassroots structure working alongside the NDC.
“All the support groups have been brought together to work with the party so that we can collectively win the 2027 general election in the state,” he said.
On his part, Mr Ikem Uzoezie, the chairman of NDC in Anambra urged the coordinators to match their support with formal political participation in the party.
Uzoezie said those interested in becoming polling-unit agents should register with the party as the compilation of agent lists was already ongoing at ward level.
He urged them to avoid selective voting while calling for coordinated support for NDC candidates across the ballot.
He charged them to work the victory of candidates across all levels from Obi and Kwankwaso for presidency to the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.
“You cannot profess that you are supporting Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso’s emergence as President and Vice-President without being a member of NDC at the ward level.
“What we are doing now is not just to win the election for Peter Obi in Anambra,” he said.
Also speaking, Prof. Pat Obi, leader of Associates of Peter Obi and Obidient Movement, urged the newly appointed leaders to resist the temptation to place personal interests above the wider political project.
He called for unity among the various support groups and urged leaders to combine their human and organisational resources.
