NDE to train 100 persons on Agric business in Anambra

No fewer than 100 persons would recruited and trained by National Directorate of Employment (NDE) for training in its Agriculture Business programme entitled “Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme” (SADTS)
Mrs. Chika Ufelle, Coordinator of NDE in Anambra said this at the inauguration of the programme in Awka on Wednesday.
She said the participants would be drawn from graduates of tertiary institutions, school leavers and retirees.
She said SADTS was an agricultural business training with practical lessons from on-farm demonstrations with tutorials on industry best practices.
The coordinator said those that would be selected in Anambra would join other 3,600 participants that would be selected in others states of the country and Federal Capital Territory to make a total N3,700 beneficiaries.
“The participants would be trained in seven skills which include crop production, livestock management, Micro-livestock management, food processing, preservation and storage, Agro-services and farm mechanization.
“The scheme involves two weeks of theoretical training and three months of experiential adaptive practical training, participants are also trained on enterprise management, business plan preparation, value enhancing life skills and success attitudes.
“They are encouraged to form co-operatives in order to benefit from resettlement packages,” she said.
Ufelle said she was confident that after the training, the 100 participants in the state, they would have acquired both theoretical and practical knowledge that would enable them succeed in their various chosen agro-ventures.
She expressed gratitude to the Director General of NDE, Dr. Nasiru Ladan for his desire to empower the unemployed by approving the simultaneous implementation of the programme throughout the country.
In his remarks, Director of State Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Emeka Okolie advised the participants to make positive use of the acquired skills from the training and urged them not to relent in whatever minimum assistance rendered to them financially by NDE but always be focused.
