NPFL: Abia Warriors Beat Rangers Int’l 2-0 In Awka
Abia Warriors of Umuahia on Sunday opened their NPFL 2023 season with a resounding 2-0 win against Rangers Int’l FC of Enugu at the Awka Township Stadium.
The visitors opened the scoring in the first when Bello Lukman headed home a ball in the 42 minute.
Monday Yakubu sealed the victory in the 90+3min after a series of near goal situations.
The Flying Antelopes could not take advantage of their few chances even though the Warriors remained deep in their area for a better part of the second half in defense of the lead.
Speaking after the game, Coach Erasmus Onu of Abia Warriors said his players were tactically disciplined and played according to instructions.
Onu said his opponents were not a pushover team but his good knowledge of them gave him the edge over them.
“I hope it continues this way, every game comes with its unique challenge, so we celebrate this match and pray it continues this way,” he said.
