NSF: Anambra Medal Tally Rises To 14, Female Volleyball, Deaf TT Lose Out
Team Anambra has so far wond a total of 14 medals at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF) Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The medals comprised one gold from Wushu Kungfu , six silver including two from Wushu Kungfu and Swimming respectively and one each for taekwondo and para athletics.
Others are, seven bronze including three from swimming, two from Karate and one each from Taekwondo and Darts respectively.
Meanwhile, the Anambra female volleyball team on Monday ended their medal chase in the quarter finals stage.
The hard fighting Anambra ladies lost 0-3 to the superior power of Rivers girls at the Aleke Sports Complex in Abeokuta.
The exciting encounter ended 25-14, 26-24, 25-8 in favour of Rivers State.
Players of the team have bemoaned their crash out of the festival saying they came with the ultimate prize in mind.
Ogechukwu Nwankwo, a star player in the said the loss was painful.
Nwankwo said the team gave their best but was not good enough to see them beyond the quarter finals.
“We came to win and we did our best but we lost out.
“We give thanks to God, volleyball is a beautiful game, I will continue to play it as long as the opportunity presents itself,” she said.
Also speaking, Chidimma Ezechukwu, another excellent player said the loss was an emotional for them
According to her, it was not a fantastic game for our team, we lost to a better side.
“We actually had the gold in mind but unfortunately we are out, we go and prepare better for the next festival,” she said.
In other events, Anambra lost out in Deaf Table Tennis after Arinze Maduekwe lost 0-3 to Delta State having defeated his opponent from Lagos 3-1 in the round of 16.
Okwuoma Ugwumadu crashed out in the round of 16 after losing 2-3 to Delta State.
