Ojukwu Varsity Mgt Suspends Top VC Candidate, Prof. Osegbue
The Management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has suspended Prof. Chike Osegbue, a leading candidate in the last Vice Chancellorship selection process for three months on the allegation of not teaching a course assigned to him.
The Vice Chancellor also banned Osegbue from entering the university and warned him not to be seen anywhere within and around the campus during the period of his suspension unless on invitation.
Osegbue’s suspension was conveyed in a letter dated Jan. 7 and signed by the Registrar, Chris U. Obi on behalf of the Vice chancellor.
The plot to suspend Osegbue started with a query by Dr Agary Nwokoye, the Ag. Head, Department of Political Science on Sept. 9, 2025 which purported that Oseghue failed to teach PSC 811, a postgraduate course.
This was followed by another query by the Registrar, Chris Obi on the directive of the Vice Chancellor dated Dec. 3, 2025 regarding the same subject matter.
“Sequel to your response to the query issued you dated Dec. 3 2025 for not teaching PSC 811, assigned to you during the second Semester of 2024/2025, as alleged, I am directed to suspend you from the University for a period of three months, effective Jan. 1, 2026.
“You are to resume duties in the University on April 8, 2026, depending on the outcome of the investigation of the Disciplinary Committee.
“You should immediately hand over any University or Department property in your custody to the Chief Security Officer and should not be seen within or around the University while you are on this suspension without an official invitation by the Vice Chancellor,” it said.
Meanwhile, the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee of the institution has extended invitations to Osegbue for what it called an ‘interaction’ on the alleged failure to teach and examine PSC 811.
The invitations came long after the Don had been expeditiously suspended on mere allegations.
Recall that Osegbue is currently in court contesting the appointment of Prof. Kate Omenugha ahead of him who finished first position in the selection process .
Osegbue is contending that Omenugha did not meet the criteria to be so appointed having not made it to the top three as specified by the University Establishment Law.
