Onitsha Country Club Eyes Enic Tennis Championship Cup
The Country Club, Onitsha is set to lift the 2025 Enic Tennis Championship for Southeast and Southsouth going at the Aba City Sports Club, Aba, Abia State.
Onitsha Country Club, 5-time winners will square up against Aba Sports Club while Standard Tennis Development Club Owerri will slug it out with Recreation Club Orlu on the same day.
Anietonwa Ajulufo President, Country Club, Onitsha expressed the confidence while speaking to journalists in Awka on Monday following his team’s advancement to the semi final stage of the championship.
The current champions of the competition are Standard Tennis Development Club Owerri who defeated the Onitsha side to win the cup in 2024.
Ajulufo said Country Club Onitsha was the last club from Anambra standing in the league and would definitely win their semi final game scheduled for Feb. 28 to set state for the coveted trophy
“I am happy to announce that Country Club Onitsha is doing well at the ongoing Enic Tennis Championship.
“We are currently in the semi final stage and the only club from Anambra state that is still in the championship.
“We are hopeful of winning this cup since we won last in 2009, Boniface Olisakwe, the captain of the club, has promised to bring the cup back to Onitsha,” he said.
The President said Country Club Onitsha was featuring a team of three singles, seven doubles and three veteran players.
A total of 12 teams registered for the competition including Abakaliki Recreation Club, Nnewi Sports Club, Enugu Sports Club, Aba Sports Club, Onitsha Country Club and Standard Tennis Development Club.
Others are Owerri Recreation Club Orlu. Safari Recreation Club Owerri, Owerri Sports Club, Owerri Prisons Club, Calabar Sports Club, Ikot Ekpene Sports Club
The 2024/2025 Enic Tennis Championship served off in October last year.
