Police Arrest Suspected Cultist At Gathering In Onitsha, Hunts Fleeing Members
One Chinedu Ike, male, 25 has been arrested by men of the Nigeria Police, Anambra Command at a cult-related gathering at Abagana Street, Fegge, Onitsha.
SP Toochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said the cult gathering was disrupted by by operatives of Fegge Police Station today during which other suspected members of the group took to their heels.
He said the arrested suspect admitted during preliminary interrogation that he was a member of the Vikings Confraternity.
“Acting swiftly on the information, the operatives moved to the location and arrested Chinedu Ike, male, aged 25 years, while other persons suspected to be members of the group reportedly fled on sighting the Police.
“The Police have immediately commenced intelligence-led efforts to identify, trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects, as well as determine their possible involvement in cult-related activities and other violent crimes within the area,” he said.
Ikenga said the matter had been transferred to the Violence and Cult-Related Crimes Unit (VCRU) on the directive of the Commissioner of Police for discreet investigation and further necessary action.
