Police Deploy Personnel To Enhance School, Student Safety In Anambra

The Police Command in Anambra has commenced deployment of personnel to enhance safety in and around schools as a new academic session kicks off in the state.

 

The deployment of personnel to strategic locations around schools across the State is in line with the Inspector General of Police’s Safe School Initiative.

 

The operation is being coordinated in Anambra by Mr Harrison Oruruo, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations , the deployment of Police.

 

 

CP Nnanna-Oji Ama, Commissioner of Police in Anambra who inaugurated tge operation on Wednesday said deployment was aimed at strengthening security around educational institutions, sensitising pupils and students on personal safety and security awareness.

 

He said they would assist school children with safe road crossing, and providing other necessary policing services to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.

 

“The Command is also using the exercise to strengthen collaboration among the Police, school authorities, teachers, parents, guardians, host communities and other stakeholders towards the early identification, prevention and prompt response to security threats around schools.

 

“Personnel deployed for the exercise have been directed to maintain high-visibility presence, monitor activities within and around school environments, assist pupils and students, particularly during peak arrival and closing periods, and respond promptly to security concerns,” he said.

 

Ama restated the commitment of the Command to the safety and protection of students, teachers and other members of the school community.

 

The CP urged school authorities, parents, guardians and students to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or perceived threats to security agencies.

 

He further said security was a shared responsibility and called on all stakeholders to provide credible information to the Police and other security agencies to facilitate timely intervention.

 

Ama assured Anambra residents that the Command would continue to strengthen security visibility, intelligence-led policing, community engagement and proactive response around educational institutions across the State.

 

The Command wished all pupils, students, teachers and other members of the school community a safe, peaceful and successful academic session.
