Police Rescue 7-Year-Old Girl From Domestic Abuse In Anambra
The Police Command in Anambra has rescued a seven years old child from abuse by her mother, identified as Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, 32.
The child was rescued with severe body injuries in Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi where the family lived on Sept. 13.
The operation was in collaboration with Anambra Ministry of Women Affairs who had secured urgent medical care and protection for the victim.
CP Nnanna-Oji Ama, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra condemned the abuse of the child in strong terms and reiterated his resolve to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
According to SP Toochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)in the state, preliminary information indicated that the child was subjected to severe physical abuse, including injuries inflicted with a hot knife.
He said the CP in collaboration with the Anambra Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare had resolved to ensure that the victim received urgent and appropriate medical care, protection, and all necessary welfare support.
He commended the vigilance, courage, and public-spirited intervention of the Ibollo Community security personnel and residents whose swift action helped save the child from further harm.
“The Anambra Police Command assures the public that the investigation will be thorough, professional, and uncompromising.
“The welfare, safety, and best interests of the child remain paramount, and the Command will continue to work with relevant agencies to protect vulnerable persons and ensure accountability in accordance with the law,” he said.
