Sen. Tony Nwoye,  member representing Anambra North Senatorial District in the National Assembly on Saturday joined other notable Nigerians to pay homage at burial of Prof. Ben Nwabueze, an elder statesman and doyen of constitutional law.

Nwoye was joined by Rep. Afam Ogene, member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency among others.

Speaking at the event, Nwoye eulogised the life and times of the former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo describing him as a legal colossus who made indelible footprint within and outside Nigeria.

He said the death was a great loss to Nigeria and the Igbo nation.

He said Nwabueze used his rich experience and knowledge to develop the field  of legal profession as well as serve the country and humanity.

According to him, Prof. Ben Nwabueze lived an exemplary life that was self-evident.

“He used knowledge and experience driven leadership and counsel to provide pathways as a legal luminary, educationist and bridge builder and these will be discussed for generations.

“He was a very decent constitutional lawyer and minister par excellence, he was a vocal nationalist who made invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s nationhood,” he said.

Nwoye consoled members of Nwabueze family and the entire people of Ogbaru, his community and prayed that God would grant the departed eternal rest.

Nwoye reiterated his call for the immortalisation of Nwabueze by the renaming of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra after him.

The Senator had sponsored a motion to that effect in November last year when he called the attention of the Senate to the death of the legal luminary.
