Sit-At-Home: Soludo Seals Another Big Market In Anambra

Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has sealed off the New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) Market popularly known as Nkwo Nnewi for a period of one week.

The market was sealed on Monday following their refusal to comply with the directive that all markets in the state should open for business on Mondays.

Chief Evarist Uba, the Special Adviser to Soludo on Trade and Markets, gave the order on behalf of the governor.

Other members of the monitoring team were Dr Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information, AVM Ben Chiobi(Rtd), the Special Adviser to Soludo on Security and Nnewi Mr Echezona Anazodo, chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Council.

Uba said the closure would last for one month and warned that the market may face further closure if compliance was not substantial by next Monday, when the market would be reopened.

“The New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) Market, Nkwo Nnewi, is closed for business effective from midnight Monday, Feb. 23 and will reopen next Monday, March 2.

“The closure of the market followed low compliance with Mr Gov. Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s order to end Monday sit-at-home in Anambra.

“Traders and customers are advised to avoid the market until next Monday to avoid issues with law enforcement agents,” he said.

Recall that the Onitsha Main Market was shut for one week in January for similar reasons.
