Soludo Bids Ejeagha ,Ace Folklorist Farewell
Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has expressed grief over the demise of renowned Nigerian highlife icon Mike Ejeagha.
Ejeagha noted for his skill of story telling and folklore through music died on May 7 at the age of 95.
Soludo eulogised Ejeagha as a deeply philosophical musician, an iconic cultural ambassador and an exemplary custodian of Igbo oral traditions.
He said his music, characterised by a unique blend of highlife rhythms and captivating storytelling which resonated throughout Nigeria across generations even though he sang in Igbo language.
The governor recalled some of his evergreen tunes including, “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo, Uwa Ngbede Ka Mma which which the late legend not only entertained but also educated Nigerians.
“He preserved our rich cultural heritage and promoting the vibrancy of Igbo folklore through his lyrics.
“Ejeagha pioneered a genre which encapsulated the essence of the Nigerian experience, effectively bridging generational identities in a career spanning several decades.
“He is distinguished as a national icon.
“We mourn this tremendous loss of Mike Ejeagha, a maestro whose melodies brought joy, hope, and unity to Nigerians.
“May his soul rest in peace as his family also finds solace during this difficu
lt time,” he said.
