Soludo, Others Extol AIG Orutugu, Retired CP In Anambra
Gov. Chukwuma Soludo has commended AIG Ikioye Orutugu, the outgoing Commissioner of Police who is pulling out of service.
Soludo made the commendation during a special session of the State Executive Council meeting held at the Light House, Awka on Wednesday.
AIG Orutugu retired from service as the Commissioner for Police in Anambra on Aug. 3 when he attained the mandatory age of 60 years.
The governor who rolled out the full paraphernalia of state to honor the retiring Orutugu, described the event as a historic milestone for the state.
He said native of Brass Local Government Area in Bayelsa State was bowing out after a distinguished career after attaining the mandatory service year of 60 while praising his dedication.
“It is quite emotional and almost impossible to believe that Orutugu is leaving us. Fantastic seeing all of you in solidarity, this is the very first time we are doing this in Anambra State.
“Let me specially appreciate your mother and members of the royal cabinet from Bayelsa, you all gave Nigeria the gift of Ikioye.
“We want to congratulate you on your elevation; you more than deserved it. You are a team player who worked with your colleagues in the security architecture to produce the results you did,” he said.
Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, the Secretary to the State Government said it was a very important day to recognise the efforts and milestones of AIG Orutugu.
Nnake thanked him specially for his impactful work and wished him well in retirement.
Also speaking, Mr Tochukwu Nweke (SAN), the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, congratulated the AIG, saying he assumed office when Anambra was wrapped in insecurity.
Nweke said the state was now one of the safest states in the country, noting that Ikioye fought with the people and we won the battle.
On his part, Mr. Chuks Anukposi, the State Director of the Department of State Security said Ikioye was a friend and partner.
Anukposi said the AIG (rtd) was passionate about his job, a mobiliser and an organiser.
In his response, Orutugu expressed gratitude to God, Soludo, and the people of Anambra, saying he was honored to have served in the state
“I extend my gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, the people and government of Anambra, sister agencies, community leaders, and the great people of the state.
“Together we confronted the threats and recorded remarkable achievements in the state, thereby leading to improved public safety as well as strengthened public confidence in the police,” he said.
