Soludo Restates Commitment to Fight Against Drug Abuse
Gov. Chukwuma Soludo has reiterated the commitment of his administration to eradicate drug abuse and vices among young people.
Soludo gave the assurance during the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking organised by the Nigeria Drug Law and Enforcement Agency in Awka on Friday.
The governor who was represented by Mt Patrick-Agha Mba, Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development said he would combat substance abuse through innovative youth-focused programmes and policies that provide young people with meaningful opportunities.
He said his government has made quality education, skills acquisition, sports and entrepreneurship as key strategies towards prevention of drug abuse, healthier and more productive society.
“This administration believes that the most effective way to win the fight against drug abuse is to empower young people with education, employable skills and economic opportunities.
“Our numerous interventions in youth development are deliberately designed to keep young people positively engaged, self-reliant and less vulnerable to drug abuse, crime and other social vices,” he said.
Soludo urged young people to shun substance abuse and embrace discipline, hard work and responsible citizenship.
He assured them that the government would continue to collaborate with relevant agencies and stakeholders to deepen drug abuse awareness, prevention and rehabilitation programmes across the state.
The event featured presentation of prizes to winners of inter-school quiz competition organised to promote awareness of the dangers of drug abuse among students.
Mr C. O. Onubogu, the Commander of NDLEA who made the presentations congratulated the schools which took part and appreciated their good knowledge of the anti-drug campaign.
