SWAN Commiserates With Anambra Football Community Over POR Star FC Crash
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has expressed heartfelt sense of loss over the crash road involving members of
POR Star Football Club of Onitsha who were on their way to Awka on Sunday, Aug. 16
POR Star players were on their way to honour a fixture in the ongoing All Stars Football Championship when the bus conveying them plunged into a ditch on the Enugu-Onitsha expressway leaving some severely wounded and in danger.
The incident was confirmed by Chikelue Iloenyosi, Chairman of Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA) who has paid condolence visit to the club and the families of affected persons.
SWAN Anambra Chapter, in a Statement signed by Chimezie Anaso and Uche Ndeke, Chairman Secretary respectively extended condolences to the entire football family, AnSFA and POR Star Football Club of Onitsha for the unfortunate loss.
“We are deeply saddened by this painful development, we recognise the passion, dedication and commitment that POR Star Football Club has consistently shown in promoting the beautiful game.
“On behalf of the entire membership of SWAN Anambra Chapter, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the management of POR Star Football Club, the players, officials, families of those affected, and all who are mourning this loss.
“We pray that the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and that the Almighty God grants the injured a quick and full recovery.
“We also ask God to comfort the bereaved families and grant them the strength to come out of this period of difficult time,” it said.
