SWAN Inaugurates 7-Man SWANECO For 2026 Triennial Election
The National leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has constituted the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Electoral Committee (SWANECO) to conduct the election of a new set of national officers later in the year.
The 7-man 2026 SWANECO led by Hembadoon Orsar and Jacob Onjewu as Chairman and Secretary respectively was inaugurated during the Full Council held virtually on May 14.
The Full Council also approved the hosting of SWAN Triennial Delegates Congress, initially scheduled for July to be extended for one month and not later than August this year.
Isaiah Benjamin, the President of SWAN said the tenure of the current National Executive Committee would end in July and that it was necessary to kickstart the transition process early to ensure a seamless exercise.
Other members of the SWANECO were Chimezie Anaso, Emmanuel Akpan, Bisi Ogunleye, Bala Bawaji and Bushra Yusuf.
Benjamin commended SWAN chapters across the country for their unwavering support and cooperation in the implementation of programmes and activities of the association over the past few years.
He noted that the setting up of SWANECO was in line with the provisions of the association’s constitution and urged members of the committee to discharge their responsibilities without fear or favour.
The president pointed out that this was the first time a woman had been given the opportunity to serve in that capacity in the history of the association.
In her acceptance speech, Hembadoon Orsar assured members that the committee would organise a free, fair and widely acceptable election in accordance with the constitution of the association.
She appreciated the Benjamin-led administration for the opportunity to serve and pledged the committee’s readiness to justify the confidence reposed in them.
The virtual meeting recorded over 70 percent attendance, including members of the National Executive Committee.
