Synod: Ekwunife, Soludo Seek End To Insecurity
Some stakeholders have expressed deep concerns over the prevailing wave of insecurity across the country and called for an end to the situation.
The stakeholders made the call during the closing ceremony of 12th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Awka, at St Michaels and All Angels Church, Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra.
Sen. Uche Ekwunife, representing Anambra Central said that the synod was another occasion to pray and work toward a peaceful society.
Ekwunife said that Nigeria was in an unconventional war which required the conscious effort of everybody to defeat.
According to her, there is need to engage the youths at all level for a sustainable solution.
“We are in a very precarious situation in Nigeria today, it calls for God’s intervention.
Apart from being watchful, we have to pray ceaselessly that the grace of God will be with us.
“What is going on is unconventional war, and in such situation, the citizens have the responsibility to ensure they watch out for unusual happenings in their environment, the security people cannot do the whole job, they also rely on the citizens to work effectively.
“Youths are the life wire of the society, we have to engage them continuously and this is the duty of government, parents and even schools so we can feel their pulse and make them become the people we want them to be in the society,” she said.
On his part, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria lauded the Church for its steadfastness in prayers for Nigeria, especially at this time.
Soludo said he was convinced that Nigeria would sing a new song while calling on all to work for peace that would translate to better lives for individuals and households.
Also speaking, HRH, Igwe Shadrach Moguluwa, the traditional ruler of Nawfia, said the community was privileged and excited to hold the Synod, noting that it was a sign of great things to come.
Moguluwa said that insecurity had hindered economic development and welfare of the people, adding that Nigerians should sit together and solve their problems themselves.
“We thank God for this synod, it came during the time I ascended throne as Igwe of Nawfia, a time when Anambra is celebrating it first Airport, I want to congratulate Chief Willie Obiano and his wife for the tremendous progress we are witnessing in the state.
“My appeal is that people should give peace a chance, because without it, there will be no development, we must come together and chart a course for peace in this country,” he said.
In his message, Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim, Archbishop of Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, prayed for a peaceful governorship election in Anambra while urging electorates who were yet to obtain their voter’s card to endeavour to do so.
Ibezim, also the Bishop of Awka Diocese said their votes were their choice, hence the need for them to take it seriously.
He decried the neglect of agriculture which had resulted to food insecurity and warned that Nigeria would not be able to manage food crisis if the situation got to the extreme.
