United Nigeria Airlines Felicitates Abia, Taraba, Delta Others @35
United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) has congratulated Enugu, Ekiti, Osun and other seven states created on Aug. 27, 1991 on the occasion of their 35 anniversary of statehood.
UNA in a goodwill message described the creation of the 10 states as a defining moment in Nigeria’s history.
The 10 states created on Aug. 27, 1991 are Abia, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kogi, Osun, Taraba and Yobe.
The Statement which was signed by Chinelo Obogo, the Head of Corporate Communication at UNA said that the creation of those states had helped unlock more economic potential across the nation.
Quoting Adedayo Olawuyi, the Chief Commercial Officer of UNA, the Statement said the states were born from a vision of bringing Nigeria closer to the people, developing the communities and giving them a voice.
He said UNA was keying into the vision by uniting across the regions and helping businesses and students to reach new opportunities in line with visions for creating those states.
“Since their creation, these states have developed into key economic drivers; Abia and Enugu, for instance, have emerged as manufacturing and trade corridors in the Southeast, while Delta has been pivotal to energy production in the Niger Delta.
“Edo is Nigeria’s leading palm oil-producing state, and across the North, Taraba, Adamawa, Jigawa, Kebbi, and Yobe are agricultural epicentres, while Kogi is a transit link connecting Nigeria’s geographic regions.
“Aviation remains central to sustaining these economies. When we fly a businesswoman from Enugu to expand her manufacturing business, we are supporting the dreams that these states were created to nurture.
“These 10 states represent something beautiful and profound,”
UNA said Taraba and Adamawa created from old Gongola state on Aug 1, 1991 with Jalingo and Yola as their capital respectively, had developed into important centres for agriculture and mineral resources, contributing to Nigeria’s food security and industrial production.
It said Abia from Imo State had emerged as one of Nigeria’s manufacturing hubs and a centre of innovation while Delta State, from old Bendel had become the centre of Nigeria’s energy sector.
“Edo State with Benin City as its capital, is a very crucial player in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector while Enugu has established itself as an industrial hub and trade centre in the Southeast.
“Jigawa State from Kano is an agrarian economy that supplies agricultural products to national and international markets while Kebbi State from Sokoto State has developed as a centre for cross-border trade and agriculture.
“Kogi State from parts of Kwara and Benue States occupies a unique position as the confluence point of Nigeria’s major rivers.
“Osun State from Oyo State is known for its rich Yoruba culture and thriving commercial activities and Yobe State from Borno with Damaturu as its capital, has developed as an importan
t agricultural centre,” it said.
