Woman 22, Allegedly Stages Own Kidnap, Obtains N3m Ransom From Family In Anambra
Miss Blessing Nwachukwu, a 22 years old lady has been arrested by the Police Command in Anambra for allegedly staging her own kidnap and conspiring to obtain N3 million ransom from her family.
SP Toochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said on Sunday that the suspect was arrested by Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, following an investigation into a case of reported kidnapping.
Ikenga said Nwachukwu was reportedly abducted along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on Aug. 29 and had remained in captivity in spite the payment of N3 million ransom by her family.
He said intelligence led officers to trace her to a room in Asaba, Delta State on Sept. 18.
“Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the lady allegedly conspired with a female associate identified as Onyinye and another male accomplice, whose identity is presently unknown to stage her own kidnap and to obtain money from her family.
“The arrested suspect is currently assisting the Police with useful information towards establishing the full circumstances of the incident, as well as identifying and apprehending her alleged accomplices,” he said.
Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police in Anambra CP Nnanna-Oji Ama, had directed for an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all persons found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
