12 Amateur Clubs Participate In Maiden Eziaha Uwaezuoke Football Championship
No fewer than 240 footballers from amateur clubs from Abia, Imo and Enugu states are going to trade tackles in the first edition of Ambassador Eziaha Uwaezuoke (AEU) Football Championship.
The championship which is being sponsored by Ambassador Eziaha Uwaezuoke is holding in Umuogele Amuda Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.
Uwaezuoke is a leading and trusted name in the real estate business and the Regional Director of PWAN Homes, Southeast zone.
The event was declared open with an opening match between the homeside team, BOHOLD FC Isuochi and Abia Warriors of Umuahia Under 17 team at the stadium, Amuda Isuochi amidst mammoth crowd on Sunday
.
Coaches and scouts including ex-Rangers and Enyimba coach, Onyebuchi Nosike, and Sampson Uzoma were ground to ensure that the aim of the competition is realised.
Speaking, Uwaezuoke said he intended to sponsor no fewer than five U17 players to the International arena to continue ply their trade by the end of the championship competition.
He called on the Federal, State governments and football managers across the country to be more sincere and specific in the development of the sports sector.
According to him, after proper background checks and considerations , I decided to come up with this championship to give the teaming youths a platform to become football ambassadors.
“Many people had held football championships in the past but only for political gains rather than making an effort to discover raw talents in the grassroots.
“My passion is to ensure that youths are engaged with sporting activities which will in turn take their minds off crime and other societal ills.
“I have seen that many youths are enthusiastic about football but sadly they are not getting the needed support, which is what prompted me to see how I can come to contribute towards having a better society through football,” he said.
The Real Estate guru described the players as promising, willing and ever ready to put in their best in any organized sporting event.
“I am not going to stop until this dream is achieved and made manifest,” he said.
Onyemaechi Eze, the Coordinator of the Championship and Founder , Bohold FC, listed the 12 teams to include Giant Brillars FC of Enugu, Ekomzy Classic, Owerri, FC Baresi, Abia Warriors, Taiti FC, Umuaku, and Temper Collers FC of Amuda.
Other are Sporters United, Young Boys FC, Bright FC, Nneato, Pioneer FC, and Bohold FC.
Onyemaechi Eze said all the teams will keep playing in two groups of A and B till it gets to quarter , Semi and Finals which will be played at the Chrisnak Stadium Isuochi.
Eze, who is founder Bohold FC said the trans were drawn in three groups of four teams.
He expressed hope that the competition would empower youths, reduce crime and give them a platform for a brighter future.
