Anambra Gov’t, Security Agencies Hold Rally Against Terrorism

The Anambra government in collaboration with some security agencies have staged a rally in the streets of Awka, the capital city against terrorism in the state.
The rally with no fewer than 300 participants kicked off at Amawbia through Zik:s Avenue and terminated at Anambra Tower near the New Government House .
Participants at the event which the The theme “Unite Against Terror” were the Department of State Services, the Police, Nigeria Correctional Service, Immigration, NDLEA, Heads Federal Establishments as well as Red Cross, Anambra Bus Drivers Forum, and Tricycle Rider Forum.
Dr Law Mefor, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation in Anambra who addressed the crowd said it was a demonstration of the peoples’ unity against terrorism of all sorts.
Mefor said the people of Anambra had resolved to unite and defeat terrorism in all its ramifications while regretting that tterrorism which used to be alien to the people was now eating deep into the social fabric.
“We must say no to terror and united we will defeat terrorism, regardless of the guise, terror is terror.
“We need peace because without peace, there will be no development, so if you see something, say something because you can earn up to N5 million if the whistle you blow is true,” he said.
On his part, Mr Osita Obi, a Civil Rights Activist and Convener of Recovery Nigeria Project said peace and security was the responsibility of all citizens.
Obi called on tricycle operators to use their reach at the grassroots to assist security agencies in intelligence gathering and information sharing.
“Security agencies cannot do it alone, they need our corporation to do their job effectively,” he said.
Also speaking, Chief Chinenye Ihenko Director Operation, Agunechemba Security said the outfit was in full solidarity with the campaign against terror insecurity.
Ihenko said Agunechemba would continue to complement the Federal security agencies in terms of ‘boot on the ground ‘ and information to ensure Anambra remained safe, security and livable in line with objectives of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo.
