August Meeting; Nwosu Lauds Women’s Contributions To Community Development
Mr John Nwosu, the 2025 Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra has felicitated women across Anambra, the Southeast, and Nigeria as they gather for the 2026 Annual August Meeting.
Nwosu in his goodwill message at the weekend said the August Meeting was one of the greatest symbols of grassroots development, unity, cultural preservation, and women-led leadership in Africa.
He paid glowing tribute to the resilience, wisdom, compassion, and industry of Nigerian women.
He said remarkable transformation witnessed in many communities across Igbo land bore the fingerprints of women who had sacrificed their time, resources, and energy for the common good.
Nwosu said the annual August Meeting was far more than a tradition, but a powerful development institution through which generations of women had mobilised resources, inspired collective action, and executed life-changing projects in their various communities.
“Across Igbo land, our women have written an inspiring story of service and selflessness.
“Through the annual August Meeting, women have built schools, equipped health centres, supported indigent students with scholarships, cared for widows and vulnerable families.
“They have also improved markets, constructed community halls, championed sanitation, promoted peace, and strengthened the bonds that hold our communities together.
Their contributions have become an enduring legacy that continues to inspire the entire nation,” said stated.
He said the achievements recorded through the August Meeting had shown that sustainable development was fastest when communities were united behind a shared vision and when women were given the opportunity to lead.
According to him, the impact of the annual gathering extends beyond the Southeast, serving as a model of community-driven development and participatory leadership for the rest of Nigeria.
Nwosu encouraged women to use this year’s meeting to deepen unity, strengthen family values, preserve the rich cultural heritage of Igbo people, and continue to mentor young girls to become confident, responsible, innovative, and compassionate leaders.
He urged participants to embrace education, entrepreneurship, digital technology, financial independence, and greater participation in governance and public service.
Nwosu notes that the future prosperity of Nigeria depended on the active inclusion of women in leadership and decision-making.
“Our women are not merely participants in development, they are architects of progress.
“They nurture families, sustain businesses, build communities, preserve our values, and inspire hope.
“As we celebrate this year’s August Meeting, I urge every woman to continue being a beacon of unity, integrity, innovation, and service. Together, we can build stronger communities, a stronger Anambra, and a stronger Nigeria,” he said.
The former governorship candidate reaffirmed his commitment to championing policies that promote women’s empowerment, quality education, innovation, youth development, economic opportunities, healthcare and inclusive governance.
